Industrial Skills Training Centre (ISTC), Ikeja

INTRODUCTION

The Industrial Skills Training Centres (ISTC) Ikeja,was estabished in 1983 as "Vocational Training Centre" (VTC).The ITF in a bid to introduce into the National economy an effective and systematic technical and Vocational training system changed the Centre to Industrial Skills Training Centre (ISTC) in 1997.

Objectives

The Industrial Training Fund as a Human Resource Development Organization has its core mandate to be that of training to improve the performance of the industrial work force in the economy by training for skills acquisition and improvement of work processes. The Centre’s objectives are therefore to:

Train and develop middle level manpower with focus on employability in selected occupational areas.

Provide and improve training standards and ensure that the right technical and vocational skills needed by the local industries are available.

Empower the youths with multi-skills and entrepreneurial skills for job and wealth creation.

Certify the trainees with Certificate of competence for the labour market.

AVAILABLE COURSES

The courses offered by the Centre are classified into:

  • Long Term Courses
  • Medium Term/Modular Courses
  • Short Term Courses

a. Long Term Courses

The ISTC offers one year ITF Certificate of Competence ( COC) course in the following trade areas under the Industrial Training Fund - Nigeria Employer's Consultative Association Technical Skills Development Project (ITF-NECA TSDP):

Electrical Installation and Maintenance (EEM)

Mechanical Maintenance and Machining (MMM)

Auto Mechanic Works ( AMW)

Welding & Metal Fabrication Works (WFW)

Instrumentation and Process Control (IPC)

b.Medium Term/Modular Courses

The following medium term courses otherwise called modular programme are offered in the centre.The courses are available on individual time-based admission (i.e open entry).

c. Short Term Courses

The Centre offers numerous short term skills upgrading courses in various disciplines. For Short term courses scheduled for 2014 and their implementation dates.

d. Other Courses Offered by the Centre
